Training is one of the cornerstones of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. The training you can recieve as a member of the Auxiliary can apply to many other aspects of your life, and may be applicable to your chosen career. The Auxiliary is responsible for developing and maintaining programs for Basic Training and Qualification of Auxiliarists, for the Auxiliary Specialty (AUXOP) Courses, and for other advanced training programs, including instructor qualification, training and qualification of boat crew, coxswains, vessel examiners and marine dealer visitors. It is also responsible for developing and maintaining programs for the education, training and skill development of Auxiliarists in leadership, management and administration. As you can see, there is a lot of training available to persons who choose to become Auxiliary members.
We are in a unique situation here in Oklahoma City because we are the home to the U.S. Coast Guard Institute which is the training warehouse for the U.S. Coast Guard. The fact they they are based here in Oklahoma City affords us better access to training materials and the personnel who handle them. Feel free to visit their web site and view the vast array of courses that are available to the Auxiliarist and that are right here in our home town.
Testing can be accomplished online for many of the Auxiliary courses that are available. Any Auxiliarist may take the on-line tests. For credit purposes, all Districts have been authorized by the CHDIRAUX to participate in the on-line testing program and will receive credit towards qualification, re-qualification or certification. The District Director(s) of Auxiliary and District Commodore(s) of all Districts have approve participation in this program prior to CHDIRAUX authorization. The on-line tests are excellent practice and learning materials for all Auxiliarists. Visit the training center web site for more detailed information about online testing.
